It’s that time of year again! The Peaky Masters has finally arrived and in a shocking turn of events, four players have already withdrawn from the contest. Ian, Eric, Ciaran, and Ruiraidh couldn’t handle the pressure and have opted not to play this week. Either that, or there was a simple scheduling conflict. Regardless, there’s no telling how missing the first major will affect their status in the Peaky Golf Tour or whether they will be able to make up for their absence in the contests ahead.
The players who have chosen to participate are gearing up and sharpening their clubs as they prepare to go to war this Saturday. Without further ado, here are the Power Rankings for the Peaky Masters:
1. Cameron Cleary- Cameron is no stranger to the Peaky Golf Tour so it’s unsurprising to find him at the top of the list. There’s a certain pressure that comes with being the frontrunner, so the question going into the Peaky Masters is whether Cameron will buckle under the weight of expectation or will he be able to bear it. If victorious, this will be his very first singles win.
2. James Choy- Having previously won 3 of the 4 majors, James is one win away from completing the highly coveted grand slam. He’s so close, yet so far, as his competitors aren’t simply gong to hand it to him. James is going to have to take it.
3. Chris Choy- As the previous victor of the Peaky Masters, it’s no wonder that Chris was placed in the top three of the power rankings. However, there’s been talk that Chris’s victory is owed to his handicap, rather than his skill, and with the rule switching to 80% handicaps, he won’t be able to rely on it as much this time around.
4. Aidan Peyton- There are two types of people in this world: reachers and settlers. Reachers constantly push themselves to achieve their maximum potential, whereas settlers accept mediocrity. Aidan falls into the former category. Most players would be happy with earning a place in the top half of these power rankings, but knowing Aidan, taking the number 4 spot wouldn’t be good enough. He’s aiming to take home the gold and win himself his first singles match.
5. Tom Roche- Tom is once again number 5 and is the only player whose Peaky Masters power rankings matches his overall power rankings, and I appreciate the consistency. Despite being new to the Peaky Masters, Tom has been placed in the top half of the rankings, showing his fellow Peaky golfers are confident in his abilities. Saturday will give Tom the opportunity to earn his place in the league.
6. Colin Drummond- Like Tom, Colin is looking to win his first major. Unlike Tom, Colin has had chances before. He just failed. However, Colin has been putting in the work to improve his game, not just by strengthening his body via weekday training sessions at the Nuthouse, but by strengthening his mind and spirit, finding his zen through gardening/yardwork.. Hopefully, this will be enough for him to achieve victory and add his name to the Peaky history books.
7. JT Peyton- Once again finding himself in the bottom half of the rankings, JT is hoping to prove the naysayers wrong and finally win a singles event, though he may have to get over his fear of using a driver off the tee, because his 3wood isn’t going to cut it.
8. Liam Peyton- Snake in the Grass Liam may be on the low end of the rankings, but I wouldn’t count him out just yet. With an arsenal of dirty tricks up his sleeve, there’s no telling the lengths Liam wouldn’t go to in order to pull ahead.
9. JP Petrucci- Like Tom, this is JP’s first Peaky Masters and the first opportunity he will have to show his worth. He has nothing to worry about, though. He’s already looking better than some unnamed veterans, because he actually decided to show up.
10. Callum Sutherland- Unfortunately for Callum, Ian’s absence from the Peaky Masters has resulted in him being placed on the bottom in these power rankings. Callum’s been training hard at home, practicing his swings on his impressive golf simulator, but he may soon learn that a glorified video game isn’t the same as the real thing.
